Salford residents should have their say on the future of Europe

Local residents in Salford and across the country can have their say on the future of Europe and the EU by co-sponsoring a new Bill introduced by backbencher James Wharton MP. The draft bill, which will legislate for an in-out referendum on the EU before the end of 2017, following a renegotiation, is up in Parliament on Friday 5th July.

Local Conservatives are urging Salford residents to have their say by signing up to co-sponsor the Bill at

Cllr Iain Lindley, Deputy Chairman of Salford Conservatives, said:

"It has been almost four decades since the people were given the opportunity to express their opinion in a referendum, and like many Salford residents, I wasn't old enough to have participated.

Tomorrow, Conservative MPs will vote to give everyone the opportunity to have their say on the future of Europe and the EU. It's very disappointing that neither Labour nor the Liberal Democrats trust local residents in Salford, and I'd urge all Salford residents to co-sponsor the Bill and make it clear that you want your say!"
